LIKE WE DID LAST SUMMER
"Why must I be a teenager in love?" That was the kind of question song-writers were grappling with in 1961 and it is one of many issues raised in DREAMBOATS and PETTICOATS, at the Savoy, where Daisy Wood-David, the bespectacled schoolgirl song-writer, sings it with heart and soul. Her problem is that she wants to be Bobby's Girl, whereas Bobby is after the Little Town Flirt who is after Norman (Ben Freeman from Emmerdale and in great voice) who is Good Timing 24/7. Actually they are all good timing, what with table tennis and hand jive and everything because that was what we did in 1961 when we were Only Sixteen (or a little bit older). This is an innocent life-affirming musical from those two old cynics Lo and Mo and a most energetic cast who got all of us (I mean all) to our feet for the Hop, Wanna Dance and, of course, Twist Again.
