I visited 3 years later in the Brezhnev era and indeed when queuing in Red Square to see Lenin's tomb the guards told us to undo our coats so they could see any hidden (what?) then the next set of guards told us to do up our coats, then the next set to do them up. But the Experimental Chocolate Factory round the corner was fun. The rash cleared after a month...
